»Devastated Hopes In Ogaden Region
Today was the day that is set again by Ethiopian National Election Board as a day of opportunity for the Somali people's hope for a new day in Ogaden region, when their aspiration for democracy, freedom, rule of law, infettered opportunities, living as real human beings, exercising and carrying out the pursuit of their individual and collective lots without harassment, intimidation, coercion, abuse of their rights which is the order of the day in Ogaden region, will be dashed.

It will be dashed so hard this time around because of the associated frustration and aggravation that it will echo all over the civilized world. Why do I say and believe this?

In fact, SPDP candidates had stolen thousands of voter cards. Despite the presence of both Carter Center and European Union in Godey, the intimidation of those suspected supporters of the opposition parties is widespread. However, not only does the SPDP will win, but with such
convincing landslide thus leaving no room for protest from the opposition.

However, in each of their little corners, opposition candidates are crying foul of the way the entire process was conducted. They complained from Addis Ababa where the ground works for this election was laid to Godey of harassment, intimidation and unleveled playing field in general.

What lessons will we or should I say, will they learn from this experience? The old saying that those who do not learn from the lessons of history are bound to repeat, it is so instructive here, which incidentally forms the root of my prognostication.

Since this frustrating and disappointing experience, you would think the opposition would have started taking corrective measures immediately to ensure that the Somalis in Ogaden dream for a just and equitable society would become a reality without any further postponement. Instead, we see the same unfortunate scenario unfolding before us today. A sad fate indeed for the average person in Ogaden, who continues to wallow in poverty, ignorance, disease, corruption, and displaced, and the many unfortunate ones who have died of prevailing circumstances in Ogaden, at the behest of what we all know. A hopeless situation in need of answers and relief to these man-made plights – oh what a terrible situation in Ogaden.

Less than two days both Carter Center and European Union arrived Godey
city to ensure the fairness and integrity required in this election! What a cheap show, but amazingly the opposition is least concerned about this funny show in the city. There is no way that these observers could find out the holes dug by these SPDP candidates with the assistance of the federal army in the army garrisons.

There is so much frustration in Ogaden region today because of the loofness of opposition when it comes to issue of right and wrong of our people. I guess apposition candidates scar of what might happen to them after today’s election if they lift finger. But the people in Ogaden region too have acquired the understanding and ability to appraise the deeper motivation of a politician through his/her ideas, actions and personality. They know that they cannot win this struggle if advocates of social justice are willing to negotiate their future for personal and immediate comfort and safety.

Allah bless the people of Ogaden region for another five predictable
years of suppression and grieves.
