Ogaden Civilians: Riyale’s Booming Business
As everyone knows, Hargaisa rulers are very obedient to the Zinawi’s orders and instructions. Not surprisingly, they are not the only one who does for this, most of other Somali regions a like; including Transitional federal government and Punt land administration are one way or the other under Ethiopian militarily and political influence. However, the so-called Somaliland administration which there is no one single country or organization on this earth recognized for their cry of statehood is busy selling innocent Ogaden citizens to TPLF regime.
This illicit and cursed business was started by diseased Somaliland ruler and once former Somali prime minister, Mohamed I Igal for almost ten years ago. I don’t want to talk about Igal’s biography or background, but we “Somalis” will remember him for three destructive things that he had engineered while he was a political figure;
1- Joining NFD to Kenya.
2- Separating his clan as many Somalis known “isaaq or iidoor” from rest of Somali republic.
3- Handing innocent Ogaden civilians to Ethiopian government for revenge of late Somali government’s actions and the Darwiish movement led by the great Somali hero Sayid Mohamed Abdille Hassan to the British collaborators and Ethipian “Mengistu”colobrators SNM.
Igal believed that his clan “ISAAQ or IIDOOR was marginalized and humiliated by those administrations whom their leaders were “Daarood” tibe. Nevertheless, there is a question here that must be answered by every Somali intellectual including somalilanders; if the freedom fighters in the ogaden stop their liberation movements, will Ethiopia be satisfy for Somalis to unite under one flag and have one central government? Or will they recognize the Northern-Western part of Somalia as a country?
To me, the answer is no because Ethiopia had a dream for the last hundred years to conquer and occupy the entire Somali territory. Most importantly, the northern regions of Somalia were one of their favorite territories that they were looking for. For example, last Ethiopian regimes argued in front of the UN that Somalia shouldn’t be recognized as a country at all. Also, Mingistu H Marium, former Ethiopian dictator said publicly that Saylac and Barbara are part of greater Ethiopian land. Hence, If ONLF stops their struggle for freedom and joins Ethiopian government today, who will pay the price? Are we Somalis safe from Ethiopian aggression and land grapping policy? Will narrow minded Hargeisa politicians like, Warabe, Riyaale, Siilaanyo get recognition from international community because of no more bullets hitting Ethiopian solders? Surely, first people who will feel the heat of Ethiopian aggression will be the so called Somaliland; they will not get guns and bullet. from Ethiopia. And, ultimately, they will be the kilil six of Ethiopia, so Isaaq political leaders ought to think twice before it is too late for them; they have to stop selling ogadenian refugees to Ethiopia, and support the self determination of Ogaden.
Let me tell you one thing from the fact of history in the horn of Africa; as many of us witnesses today, there is war between Somali-Ogaden and Ethiopian aggressors whom are from Abyssinian high land. This war was and will be there till the issue of ogaden solved. Ogadenia is the home of Somali’s great warriors like, Ahmed Ibrahim Guray, who was born “Buuralayda harar” organize his warriors, it is were the second Somali hero Sayid Mohamed engaged Minilik troops 1-1-1900, and it is his grave yard “IIMEEY”, and the birth place for SYL “Jigjiga” as many historians agreed. For that history is why the European colonizers British, France and Italy divide Somalis into five.
For the case of ONLF struggle, it is nothing new because they are just following the foot steps of their great grandfathers as the Abyssinians do too. This is a historic straggle between Somalis and Abyssinians. There will be no peace in the horn of Africa, till this issue “Ogadenia” solved. Ethiopians and Somalis can’t live peace as long as Ogadenia is not freed or not allowed for their self of determination.
My suggestion to ONLF rebels, for the history of human being, no nation got their freedom without blood and sacrifices. And, today you overwhelmed Ethiopian regime led by Melez Senawi in two fronts politically and militarily.
First, international community including “international red cross and United Nation’s special unit that visited ogaden”, and the US Congress acknowledged that Zanawi’s regime is in the middle of ethnic cleansing. For just over a month ago, there was a very successful hearing in the US house of representative’s foreign relations committee. It was a historic day for the people of the horn of Africa. The hearing was a turning point of new Ethiopia because the whole world including Zanawi’s American supporters knew that Melez is a real monster for Africa, not a democratic icon, as he pretends himself. Thus, politically, he is in defensive now.
Secondly, militarily, beginning of April 2007, Zenawi promised to put ONLF rebels under control with in 90 days, and made a televised pledge that Chinese workers will resume their oil explorations in the region. Though, his soldiers burned, raped and destroyed many innocent civilian lives, the regime’s elite forces from Tigre region was and still unsuccessful to paralyze liberation movement with in the Somali region. At the same time, ONLF were unable to defeat more superior forces of Ethiopia from the region. Thus, the matter of fact is that neither the government nor the rebels won for this campaign “BARBARDHAC”. So it is clear to the people of the region that this war can’t be won by bullets and guns, and finally some kind of political settlement must be persuade. So, Somalis should be allowed their right for self determination to decide their future.
Finally, because of East Africa’s uncertain future and Ethiopia’s losing in both Ogaden and Somalia, Riyale and his “henchmen” have to think twice before it is too late for them. They have to stop selling Ogaden Civilians to Ethiopia. They must stop igniting clan based animosity. For the ONLF, you shouldn’t harm “ISAAQ” civilians and business men and women. Ethiopia wants you to take that kind of steps and create a clan ware between Ogaden and Isaaq to divert your warriors from attacking itself. Fighting between Somalis is number one goal for Ethiopia’s policy on Somalia and Somalis. The so called Somaliland leaders are in the middle of day dream. Why? Because they are hoping to be recognize by international community as an independent country, while they are in a clear international crime against humanity and Geneva conventions. Ethiopia wants to keep Hargeysa in the middle of nowhere, and finally took over the whole Somaliland. Let us remember once again that Ethiopia run Mogadishu affairs and t have an unlimited access to Barbara and Mogadishu ports while, Riyale and his henchmen are busy to cutoff Hergaysa and Burco from the rest of Somalia.
